According to Maryland State Police, Khyree Jackson, a 24-year-old rookie cornerback for the Minnesota Vikings, died early on Saturday morning in an automobile accident in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.

According to authorities, Jackson was one of the three fatalities from the nighttime three-car collision in Prince George’s County.

The Vikings said in a statement that they had communicated with Jackson’s family and that they were devastated by the loss. Head coach Kevin O’Connell and general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah of the Vikings both expressed their sadness at the occurrence.

“Khyree’s aspirations, both personally and professionally, were evident as we got to know him during the pre-draft process. His was a resilient narrative. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah stated, “He was making efforts to become the best version of himself, not just for himself but also for those who looked up to and cared about him.”

Prior to finishing his collegiate career at Oregon, Jackson played two years at Alabama and was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. At the next training camp in Eagan, Minnesota, he was vying for a starting cornerback spot.

Isaiah Hazel, 23, and Anthony Lytton, Jr., 24, were the other casualties. Lytton and Jackson were riding along with Hazel, who was driving. Hazel was a football player at the University of Maryland. Lytton had previously played for Penn State and Florida State. Together, the three had previously won state titles at Maryland’s Dr. Henry A. Wise Jr. High School.

Hazel’s automobile and a third vehicle were hit by a second, northbound vehicle that was attempting to change lanes quickly, according to the police. There were no injuries to the drivers of the second or third car.
The Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office has been consulted, and charges are awaiting the completion of more investigation into the possibility that alcohol had a role in the collision.
