Milan (Reuters) . On Monday, Ferrari, a high-end sports car company, announced two new guarantee extension plans that will let hybrid model owners get their batteries changed at set times.
The move is meant to help Ferrari owners keep their cars’ selling value as batteries, which lose power over time, become an important part of the value of electric cars.
The company said in a statement that as part of its new Warranty Extension Hybrid and Power Hybrid programmes, Ferrari will replace the high-voltage battery packs (HVB) of cars that are in their eighth and sixteenth years of life.
Ferrari already backs up the parts of their hybrid engine for five years.
The company said that the two programmes will “preserve the performance and excellence” of hybrid Ferraris over time and will be given to any new owner.
“In case of future developments in battery technology, the replacement HVB will be a new, state-of-the-art component that will ensure the same performance as the original one,” it added.
The programmes can be bought in packages that are good for two to four years and include longer factory warranties on both the cars as a whole and their main engine parts.
Based on information we have, they cost around 7,000 euros ($7,530) a year. They will also be used for Ferrari’s new all-electric car that will come out next year.
The Italian car company, known for its powerful gas engines, has been offering hybrid electric cars since 2019. These include the SF90 Stradale, the 296 GTB, and the 296 GTS. It said that its first fully electric car would come out by the end of 2025.
