In two blog postings, OpenAI announced the hiring of two top executives and a ChatGPT-Siri relationship with Apple on Monday.
Sara Friar, former Nextdoor CEO and Square Finance leader, will become CFO, the business stated. Co-chair of the Stanford Digital Economy Lab.
OpenAI noted in a blog post that she will oversee a finance team that supports our goal by investing in our core research skills and scaling to meet the needs of our growing client base and the complicated and global environment in which we operate.
In a blog post, OpenAI announced the hiring of Kevin Weil, a former Planet Labs president, as its new chief product officer. Twitter senior vice president Weill was also a Facebook and Instagram vice president. According to Weil, its product team will “apply our research to products and services that benefit consumers, developers, and businesses.”
As its massive language models acquire prominence in the tech industry and competition in the generative artificial intelligence market grows, OpenAI is strengthening its C-suite. OpenAI has been in hyper-growth mode since late 2022, when it debuted ChatGPT, but it has also been controversial and lost many people.
In May, current and former OpenAI employees wrote an open letter raising concerns about the AI industry’s rapid growth without supervision or whistleblower protections.
“AI companies have strong financial incentives to avoid effective oversight, and we do not believe bespoke corporate governance structures can change this,” they stated.
On Monday, OpenAI announced a cooperation with Apple to integrate ChatGPT into iOS, iPadOS, and macOS later this year.
In a second blog post, OpenAI stated the connection lets users employ ChatGPT’s picture and document interpretation, text generation, and image creation in Apple’s Writing Tools.
OpenAI wrote that Siri can use ChatGPT’s intelligence when helpful. Apple users are prompted before sending inquiries to ChatGPT, along with documents or photographs, and Siri answers directly.
