OLD IS GOLD

At Centre Court on Monday, the fans may have been cheering for his opponent, but Novak Djokovic could only hear boos. He has won 24 Grand Slam singles titles.
The Serbian star told the crowd he didn’t like it after beating the 15th-seeded Holger Rune.
“I know they were happy for Rune.” “But that’s also a reason to boo,” Djokovic said in his talk on the court after the game. “Listen, I’ve been on tour for twenty years.” Don’t worry, I know all the tricks. I understand how it works.
“That’s okay. It’s all right. It’s fine. I pay attention to the polite people who bought a ticket to see the match tonight and love tennis. And I love tennis. Have respect for the players and the work they put into this.
Rune’s fans have been known to cheer for him by writing his name backwards, making it sound like they’re saying “boo.”
Djokovic brought that up when he thanked the fans, or at least some of them, on the court.
“Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart. “Thank you,” he replied. “Have a great night to everyone who chose to disrespect the player—in this case, me.” Good night. Good night. “What a wonderful night.”
Rune, who is 21 years old, had no trouble beating Djokovic, who is 37 years old. He won 6-3, 6-4, 6-2. Rune even said that he didn’t believe the fans were “very important to the match.”
Still, when it was over, Djokovic made a hand motion as if he were playing a violin, which was probably a joke about how upset the loud fans were that he had made it to the semifinals at the All England Club for the 15th time.
“Trust me, I played in much more hostile places,” Djokovic said. “You guys can’t touch me.”
